Botox

So far, it is reported that about 11 million women and men have had Botox Cosmetic® done.

It is administered by a physician and is effective to reduce lines and wrinkles, such as:

• Frown lines between your brows

• Crows feet around your eyes

• Wrinkles and lines on your forehead

What is Botox® Cosmetic?

In order to understand if Botox® Cosmetic can help, we will explain the difference between different kinds of muscles that cause wrinkles.

DYNAMIC wrinkles are visible only when you make an expression. When muscles move under the skin that leads to a fold in the skin above. They are also called EXPRESSION LINES. Typical dynamic wrinkles include vertical frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet around the eyes. These are best treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic.

STATIC wrinkles are seen all the time. Fillers such as Restylane are used to treat some static wrinkles, such as the groove that runs from each end of the nose to the corner of the mouth.

In other words, because DYNAMIC wrinkles are related to activity of underlying muscles, BOTOX® Cosmetic is best to treat them. Botox Cosmetic is not efficient with STATIC wrinkles. We combine  BOTOX ® Cosmetic with other techniques such as fillers (e.g. Restylane), lasers and skin tightening procedures to give you the look you want.

Here are some of the common questions and answers:

Do wrinkles make you look tired or angry?

If you are one of those people that have deep wrinkles between the eyebrows, chances are that you may sometimes look angry or frustrated when you are not. Those wrinkles betray you because they  may give an unpleasant appearance.

Here are some suggestions for your after treatment regimen:

Do not lie down, rub or massage the treated area  for at least 4 hours after treatment. This will help to avoid moving BOTOX into areas where it is not needed and will help to reduce the chance of side effects.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a remarkably safe treatment with a proven track record. The vast majority of patients have no side effects whatsoever. Side effects are minimal and typically relate to the local injection. Soreness, although uncommon, may occur around the injection site. Occasional patients experience a small bruise. This can be hidden with cover up, and fades away in a few days. Headache is uncommon, but may occur. These effects are typically very short-lived. Approximately 1-2% of patients may develop a slight lowering or drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow, known as ptosis. This may or may not be evident, and it is always temporary. Remaining in the upright position and not manipulating the treated area for 4 hours following the treatment minimizes the chance of ptosis. BOTOX® Cosmetic does not affect the nerves responsible for sensation, so there is no numbness or change in sensation in the treated areas.
